Preparations for the Princess Life

My name isn't really Zorya. It's Brenna. I'm 22, married, unemployed and depressed. Right now, I'm also in the midst of NaNoWriMo.

As much as I am 22 and married and trying to run a household, I sometimes find myself thinking what must be my inner child thoughts. Things like, wouldn't it be nice to be a real Disney Princess? Why can't I be pretty and live a life of pink and roses and pretty things? And then I'm reminded of just how much I'm NOT like a Disney Heroine. I like violent video games and swordplay, I'm fond of vintage cars and steampunk and crime dramas. I'd rather be in a moshpit with a vampire than frolic in a meadow with a faerie (I love faeries, but they're either fickle, selfish creatures or tiny and squishable). I'm tall, plump, frizzy-haired, and I'm shy about singing.

Today, while trying to track down that darn muse of mine, I came to a decision. Part of my problem may be that I don't allow myself to be a princess anymore.

So here is my proposal to myself: After all the stress of NaNo, the month of December will be spent, in any private moment, living as a princess. Well, two, actually. I believe there are two princesses that I can be.

Princess Rowen is based in the mind of my Vampire character. She's brave and smart and a bit of a tomboy. She's definitely not a typical princess of the Disney variety. Her color is orange and her animal friend would probably be a bat. Being a vampire princess, she has quite a few flaws. She drinks blood (no cure for that), she lives nocturnally, and she tends to have moments of crazy. And because I'm a Kingdom Hearts fan (and there were an AWFUL LOT of keyblades in that trailer), her Keyblade is Lunaroja (Red Moon).

Princess Zorya is purely original, though she has some basis in Slavic myth and in a Changeling character I have in my head. She's a star princess, bright and glittering, though there's a touch of the warrior in her, as dainty as she is. Her colors are primary hues, especially royal blue, and metallics and her animal friends are a snake and a black swan. Her worst flaw is that she's too curious for her own good, making her a very good sorceress in her own right, but a lousy heroine, because she's always getting into scrapes. She's also shy and a bit of a ditz. Her Keyblade has yet to be named, but its probably got a star or a swan theme.

I really hope I can go through with this. It'll be good for me, even if I do it while home alone.
